VRD Consulting is operated by Michael S. Warburton, M.A.
For more than twelve years, Michael has worked on the cutting edge of volunteer development. Whether working locally, state-wide, or nationally, he has developed and enhanced volunteer programs while also managing the day-to-day activities of volunteer recruitment, training, and recognition for volunteers serving in capacities ranging from grassroots activism to Board member participation.
Michael has assisted agencies and businesses to successfully engage volunteers at all operational levels and for all types of work. While at AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons), Michael developed volunteer programs and strategies to engage volunteers in lobbying activities, association planning, community outreach, training and education, and grassroots mobilization. At the national level, Michael assisted with the development and implementation of successful volunteer recruitment, recognition, orientation, training, and database tracking systems. He led or participated in more than 16 volunteer-focused workgroups, traveled nationally to advise in the hiring of staff to recruit and manage volunteer resources, and assisted numerous AARP state offices in setting up their volunteer development programs. Through his participation with e-Volunteerism, “an online community catering to volunteer leaders and managers who want to go beyond the mundane in the volunteerism field,” Michael provided the perspective of a U.S. volunteer director with international volunteer resource management colleagues around the issue of “Aging in Place.”
At the state level and local levels, Michael has been responsible for all aspects of volunteer resource management through his work with a number of non-profit agencies and businesses, including Family Eldercare, Inc., Austin State School, Advocacy, Inc., and several grant-funded projects.
Michael has also been actively involved in the creation of all aspects of fundraising, with an emphasis on grant proposal development as well as grant management for a number of agencies. Whether it be private foundations, corporations, or government grant opportunities, Michael has the access and the knowledge to write proposals that increase funding for your agency.
Michael holds a Masters Degree in Counseling from St. Mary’s University as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications.
